Department of Prosthodontics

Prosthodontics pertains to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth or oral and maxillofacial tissues using biocompatible substitutes.
Prosthodontists are experts in the restoration and replacement of teeth - They make smiles look beautiful and function the way they should.

Optimal oral health and esthetics are obtained for patients through the use of dental implants, dentures, veneers and crowns. Through diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance, a prosthodontist can improve the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of a patient.

The Department of Prosthodontics educates students and provides care in the areas of fixed prosthodontics, removable prosthodontics, and occlusion.

The Department of Prosthodontics is well equipped with clinical and laboratory facilities like advanced ceramic equipments, Implant section and fully adjustable articulators, to name a few.

Prosthodontists are qualified to offer care in state-of-the-art procedures and techniques, such as:

  • Dental implants
  • Cosmetic dentistry
  • Complex care management involving multiple specialists
  • Complete and Removable partial dentures
  • Fixed partial dentures/prosthesis
  • Special needs of geriatric patients
  • Children born with cleft palate or missing teeth
  • Temporomandibular joint syndrome/disorder
  • Traumatic injuries
  • Snoring and sleep disorders
  • Maxillofacial prosthetic procedures such as oral cancer reconstruction and continuing care
  • Department teaching focuses on developing sound foundation knowledge alongside with the latest techniques and also aims at maintaining a fine balance of theoretical and clinical competency to provide quality prosthodontic care for patients. In addition to the prosthodontic needs of the patient, students are trained to be able to understand and execute comprehensive care for their patients to achieve optimal oral health, esthetics and function.
  • The mission of the Department of Prosthodontics and its faculty is to educate dental students to be skilled and competent in the discipline of Prosthodontics. Through didactic and clinical teaching, students receive required knowledge and skills to fulfill the fundamental prosthodontic needs of patients. Students are made to go through simulation and bench courses to learn the basic skills and evolve to deal with more complex cases in the Prosthodontics course and clinics thereafter
